NU Dynasty: a sweep to three-peat

National University Bulldogs took their third straight Championship title with a season sweep in the UAAP Season 85 Men’s Volleyball Tournament after a straight-set feat against UST, 25-20, 25-21, 25-20, in the Game 2 Finals series, May 14 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
The dominance of the Jhocson squad shone as they outplayed the other seven UAAP contenders in the league, extending their winning streak to 34 games dating back to Season 81 and attaining the first season sweep and ‘three-peat’ since Season 79.
“Pumunta kami rito talagang nakita ko sa players ko na gusto nilang manalo,” the Champion head coach shared. Coach Dante also expressed the overwhelming happiness and pride in their success and gave credits to his players for working all out to get their overall fifth crown this season.
Rookie Michaelo Buddin contributed 20 points and 10 excellent receptions while senior player Nico Almendras rendered 14 points from 12 powerful hits and 2 blocks to complete NU’s first sweep and help the team keep their throne.
This UAAP Season’s Best Setter and Finals MVP, Captain Joshua Retamar, was instrumental in both finals matches, delivering 25 excellent sets with five points in Game 1, and 17 sets with two blocks in the championship game.
National U’s 19-year-old monster blocker Obed Mukaba was also hailed as the Best Middle Blocker while Michaelo Buddin was named as the 2nd Best Outside Spiker in the league.
