International Student Support Center

Objectives:

There are international students at National University, and they should be covered by a valid student visa. 

The process and guidelines set in this document shall ensure that:

  • The student visa processing shall be done once the student is enrolled for a term or period.
  • As soon as the student enrolled, she/he should ask for the requirements of conversion/extension of their tourist visa to student visa.
  • The visas are monitored and processed by a Liaison Officer.

 

Scope:

The start of the procedure for application for a student visa applies to all international students who are currently enrolled for the term or period. 

 

Definition of terms:

Student visais necessary if a foreign national, 18 years old and above, intends to take up a course higher than high school in the Philippines. Furthermore, he/she has to have sufficient means of support for education in the Philippines.

LO – Liaison Officer is an employee of the school who is the only person accredited by Immigration to coordinate with them regarding Student Visa.

OPS – Order of Payment Slip is the paper that the Bureau of Immigration releases to the LO to identify the amount to be paid by the International Student

Responsibilities:

  1. Student Development and Activities Staff – assists and receives the documents for the student visa application.
  2. Liaison Officer – recommends appropriate action and performs duties in the absence of the Student Development and Activities Staff.
  3. Student Development and Activities Office Director – monitor processing and approvals of student visas.
  4. International Student – Foreign national who wants to study or who are presently enrolled in National University and will submit all the requirements needed by the Bureau of Immigration, they will also be responsible for their visa application or conversion or extension. 

 

Who is exempted from securing Student Visa and SSP?

Spouses and unmarried dependent children below 21 years old of aliens under the following categories:

  • Permanent international residents.
  • Aliens with valid working permits under Section 9(d), 9(g), and 47(a)(2).
  • Personnel of international diplomatic and consular missions residing in the Philippines and their dependents.
  • Personnel of duly accredited international organizations residing in the Philippines and their dependents.
  • Holders of Special Investors Resident Visa (SIRV) and Special Retiree’s Resident Visa (SRRV); and
  • International students coming to the Philippines with 47(a)(2) visas issued under existing laws.

Student Visa Qualifications:

  • At least eighteen (18) years old.
  • Below 18, must be represented by a legitimate guardian in the Philippines.
  • Has sufficient means for his/her education and support.
  • International students, who seek to enter the Philippines for a temporary stay with the purpose of taking up a course of study higher than high school at a university, college, or school authorized to accept international students.
  • And have submitted and complied with all the documentary requirements prescribed in the Checklist of Documentary Requirements for Conversion to Student Visa.

 

Student Visa Application

Qualified IS shall, through the admitting school’s duly authorized representative, file the appropriate applications after the quarantine protocol once arrive in the Philippines to file for a student visa application.

Qualified IS shall, through the admitting school’s duly authorized representative, file the appropriate applications within thirty days (30) before the expiration date of the student visa. 

 

Note: If the student visa were expired due to the pandemic timeframe, you will undergo visa conversion as detailed below. 

 

CONVERSION FROM TOURIST VISA TO STUDENT VISA

  • Application of the new IS application will be processed once the student arrives in the Philippines and is already enrolled.
  • Documents needed must be submitted to LO 
  • LO is the one who is responsible to scan all the documents and ask for other files that are missing or lacking
  • LO is also responsible to compile all the documents correctly and organized

 

Requirements need:

  • 2 x 2 Colored Picture with white background
  • Joint letter request to the Commissioner from an authorized representative of the petitioning school and applicant, using school letterhead with dry seal (from Registrar).
  • 2 copies of duly-accomplished Consolidated General Application Form (CGAF) for Student Visa and Special Study Permit (from SDAO).
  • Photocopy of passport pages bearing the bio-page, latest admission with valid authorized stay, and Bureau of Quarantine (BOQ) stamp.
  • Notice of Acceptance of the applicant bearing a clear impression of the school’s official dry seal (from Registrar: Sir Robert De Chavez).
  • Endorsement addressed to the Commissioner from the School for the conversion of the applicant’s status, signed by the School Registrar (From Registrar: Sir Lemuel Abo).
  • Certificate of Eligibility for Admission from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), in the case of Medicine/Dentistry.
  • CHED Endorsement for transfer and shifting of course, if applicable.
  • National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Clearance if the application is filed six (6) months or more from the date of the first arrival in the Philippines.
  • Photocopy of BI school accreditation ID of the school representative (from SDAO).

 

EXTENSION VISA FOR EXPIRED STUDENT VISA

  • The International Students must be aware of when his/her visa will expire.
  • The LO also, is in-charge in monitoring and keeping the track record of those IS who are enrolled in this term.
  • International Students must proceed to the office of SDAO to submit all the requirements needed to extend their student visa, it should be 30 days before the expiration date.
  • Penalty and fines are to be estimated by Mr. Julius Sayco c/o SDAO LO. 
  • Planning and execution must be hand in hand for the student visa extension
  • LO must be keen on details in getting all the requirements needed.

 

Requirements need:

  • 2 x 2 colored pictures with white background
  • Joint letter request addressed to the Commissioner from the applicant and the authorized representative of the petitioning school, stating that the applicant qualifies for the application with the school letterhead and dry seal (from SDAO).
  • 2 copies of duly-accomplished CGAF for Student Visa and Special Study Permit (from SDAO).
  • Photocopy of passport bio-page, visa implementation page, and latest admission with valid authorized stay.
  • Copy of Latest Transcript of Records or Certificate of Grades for three (3) previous semesters.
  • Certificate of Registration (COR)
  • Photocopy of BI school accreditation ID of the registrar or the school representative.

Note: If in case the student took less than the required normal/regular full load per semester, that is for undergraduate – minimum of 12 units, he/she must submit an explanation confirmed by the school Registrar or Dean.

 

FOR TRANSFEREE/SHIFTING PROGRAM

  • International students who wish to transfer to our school or shift program must secure a CHED Endorsement before extending their student visa.

 

List of Requirements for CHED Endorsement

For Transferee:

    • Letter of Request/Endorsement Letter/Notice of Acceptance (from SDAO)
    • Transfer of Records from the previous school (photocopy)
    • Transfer Credential (photocopy)
    • Good Moral Character (photocopy)
  • Photocopy Passport bio page and ACR ICard
  • Letter of Intent (From IS)

For Shifting Course:

  • Letter of Request/Endorsement Letter/Notice of Acceptance (from Registrar, Apply to sir Lemuel)
  • Letter of Intent (From IS)
  • Photocopy Passport and ACR I-Card

 

NOTE: The following application will be a candidate for denial if the IS:

  • Already exceeded 10 or more failed subjects during his/her stay from his/her previous school.
  • Having a valid student visa but not currently enrolled in their academic year before transferring to our school. This application must be still applied to CHED for the proper issuance of their recommendation.
