History unfolds: NU Bulldogs, named as Kings of UAAP Baseball

After 12 years, the NU Baseball team clinched gold in the UAAP tournament, dethroning three-peat seeking La Salle, 4-2, Sunday at the UP Baseball Field in Quezon City.
Following the tie at 2-2, in the sixth inning, the Bulldogs capitalized on La Salle’s errors to provide a two-run lead courtesy of Finals MVP MJ Carolino who is also one of NU’s homegrown players.
“Sobrang nakaka-overwhelm po talaga. Masaya po ako na, finally, aalis po ako na champion,” said the graduating pitcher.
Sophomore Amiel De Guzman who was named as the Best Pitcher, closed the four-hour-long match with a strikeout of JR Samuel, to deny DLSU with runners on second and third.
NU head coach Romar Landicho lauded the team for their performance and development throughout the season.
“Nung nakita ko itong mga bata last season, sabi ko may skills, kulang lang sa puso. Kaya nung binigay sa akin ‘yung trabaho, ‘yun talaga inuna ko,” said the first-year head coach.
This is also their first Finals appearance since season 75.
