The Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Mathematics (BSED MATH) program of National-U seeks to produce morally upright service-oriented educators, with solid foundation in mathematics and with informed awareness of the recent developments and trends in research and in the teaching and learning process of mathematics. Students of this program will take general education, major, and professional courses.

The mathematics major courses equip them with the necessary skills and facilitate the development of critical thinking skills like making logical deductions and inferences as well as making sound decisions when faced with mathematical and empirical situations. On the other hand, the professional education courses prepare them to be effective leaders and facilitators of learning. Moreover, the general education courses nurture their intellectual, personal and civic competencies as well as practical responsibilities.

Graduates of this program are expected to acquire the following competencies and capabilities:

a.) be equipped to teach mathematics in the secondary level;

b.) become researchers, either in pure mathematics or in mathematics education;

c.) venture into industry-related jobs such as statistician and data analyst; and

d.) pursue advanced studies in mathematics.

LECTURE: 188 UNITS
LABORATORY: 12 UNITS
Required for course completion: General Education, Professional Education and Elective Subjects, Field Trips, Seminars and Workshops, Field Study Subjects such as School and Classroom Observation, Classroom Management Skills, Micro-Teaching, Team Teaching, Practice Teaching In Both Private and Public High Schools, and Research Output.
