NU Alumni Affairs Office celebrates Midyear Alumni Day 2023

 

This year’s Midyear Alumni Day on Sunday, June 18, 2023, at the Multipurpose Hall, National University (NU) Annex Building, marked the third Alumni Day since 2018. The celebration with the theme of “Celebrating Life-long Bonds” was attended by more than a hundred notable alumni and guests. 

After a three-year hiatus from holding major events, the Midyear Alumni Day has finally been made possible by the NU Alumni Affairs Office (NUAAO). Alumni from different batches graced the event to celebrate NU’s milestone and reminisce with their former classmates and teachers. The event included alumni communities such as the NU Alumni Federation, Inc. (NUAFI), NU High School Alumni Association (NUHSAA), NU Auto Club, and the former NU Percussion Department. Also, in attendance were Engr. Carla Falconit, former Head of Registrar, Ma’am Arline Royo, former Dean, and Jefferson Napa, Head Coach, NU Men’s Basketball Team. 

 

“Today is the day of significance and pride as we come together to honor the rich legacy of our institution and the achievements of our remarkable alumni,” Ms. Ronnet B. Altuna, Assistant Director of NU Alumni Affairs Office, in her opening remarks. 

 

Dr. Renato Carlos Ermita, Jr., CEO and President of NU Philippines addressed also gave his welcoming and inspirational message during the wine toasting. The event also presented new sets of officers of the NUAFI and NUHSAA.

 

The event also featured Architect Joel Vivero Rico, guest speaker, and a Nationalian Pride. 

“Wala po tayong ibang pinangarap na isang araw, mababasa natin sa dyaryo, mapapanuod natin sa TV ang isang magandang balita about National University,” he shared. 

His speech also highlighted the prominence and greatness of the NU during his time and the status of the institution in the present time. And, while Nationalians have spent their days in different eras of excellence and greatness of the university, all have one thing in common—Nationalians are sons and daughters of NU. 

Also, part of the celebration was the Alumni Ambassadorship which was presented to Nationalian Pride—Architect Bibs Luzande, Jr., Mr. Jonel Lunario, Dr. Angelique Lacasandile, Architect Geremias Barcebal, Mrs. Violeta Dela Fuente-Lapid, and Mr. Leander Lazaro, as they bring honor and prestige to their Alma Mater. The Exemplary Alumni Award was presented to Architect Joel Vivero Rico for his contribution as Head Consultant of the NU Museum, which will be opened to the public in August 2023. The NUMBT Head Coach Jefferson Napa also received the Exemplary Alumni Award for his outstanding expertise in the field of Basketball Coaching.

All notable alumni, their expertise, and achievements were acknowledged during the event. Following the recognition, the celebration also gave respect and honor to all NU Alumni fathers as part of the Father’s Day celebration. 

To entertain the event’s dear guests and alumni, the NU Dance Company brought back all the classic grooves during their performance. The Clash 2019 Grand Finalist and NU’s former marketing student, Jennifer Maravilla, also performed for the celebration. 

The event concluded with the singing of the NU Hymn.
