National U pilots COMELEC’s Register Anywhere Program
National University spearheaded the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Register Anywhere Program (RAP) today, March 5 at the NU Multipurpose Hall, Annex Building.
This program mainly aims to increase the number of registered voters by bringing the registration closer and more accessible to people.
COMELEC Chairman George Erwin Garcia emphasized the importance of having a voter’s certification as this is as a testament to one’s eligibility in the electoral process and serves several more purposes such as proof of identity and as a requirement for other legal and civil proceedings.
Moreover, he reminded all the students and employees that voting is not an obligation but a right; hence, one shall make sure to practice it. “A vote that is casted is a voice that is heard.” He then assured that they will keep on exploring innovations to make the process more convenient and comfortable to the people.
Meanwhile, NU President and CEO, Dr. Renato Carlos H. Ermita, Jr. highlighted patriotism, among the four other core values that guide the Nationalians to be responsible citizens. He further encouraged the NU community, especially the young students to take advantage of the service given by the COMELEC.
Now that Manila and Fairview have already taken part in the activity, he looks forward to having all the other NU campuses participate in future government projects.
The event also included Voter’s Education Seminar, focusing on Voter’s Rights and Responsibilities conducted by Information Officer III, Ms. Carmelita Ayson of the COMELEC’s Education, and Information Department. She also guided the participants about the registration process and requirements.
