Lady Bulldogs stay unscathed; nears championship round Bulldogs, back in winning column
The National University Lady Bulldogs are one win away from clinching an outright championship spot in the UAAP Season 79 women’s basketball tournament after trouncing Far Eastern University, 78-42, last Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
NU is now on a 45-game winning streak, the first one dating back from 2014 proving the team’s invincibility in the women’s hoop wars.
Reigning MVP Afril Bernardino scored a near quadruple-double with 17 markers, 10 rebounds, 10 assists and 9 steals. Gemma Miranda also performed well chipping in 21 points with 9 boards and 5 assists.
This is the NU squad’s 13th consecutive win this season and they are one win away from an automatic Finals ticket. They are set to face the UP Lady Maroons on November 15 where they will attempt to secure the Finals spot.
Meanwhile the NU Bulldogs are back on the winning column after defeating the already-eliminated UE Red Warriors last Saturday, 64 to 52.
Matthew Salem regained his shooting form after chipping in 20 points, in 6-of-11 3-point shooting, that goes with 6 boards and 2 dimes.
Aroga also registered a double-double, 11 markers and 14 rebounds while team captain Jjay Alejandro made his presence felt with 10 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals.
Salem outscored the entire Warriors squad in the last quarter, 11-7 to completely bury the Recto team.
With this win, Bulldogs’ Final Four hopes are still alive as they are set to face also-Final Four-seeking Adamson Soaring Falcons on Sunday, November 13, 4pm at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
