NU Lady Bulldogs defend SSL title

The National U Women’s Volleyball team swept the best-of-three finals against UST to capture two consecutive Shakey’s Super League (SSL) Pre-Season Championship crowns last November 11 at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
During Finals Game 1, NU struggled in the beginning, giving UST an opportunity to seize an early set lead. However, NU’s second-string players stepped up and shifted the momentum to secure a 1-0 advantage in the series, 21-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-17.
Coming to Game 2, the Jhocson volleybelles started out strong. Despite the setback in the second frame, they were able to regain their composure and seal the deal, 25-17, 15-25, 25-20, 25-20.
Alyssa Solomon bagged the tournament’s Most Valuable Player and Best Opposite Hitter plums, while Mhicaela Belen was named the first Best Outside Spiker.
Team captain Erin Pangilinan and Camilla Lamina joined the mythical selection after receiving the first Best Middle Blocker and Best Setter recognitions, respectively.
With an 18-winning streak dating back 2022, returning NU head coach Norman Miguel gave credit to the team’s maturity and dedication. “Yung level of character ng bawat isa, nandoon. ‘Yun ang bumuhat sa kanila, kaya ito ang resulta sa SSL;” he concluded.
