NU Lady Bulldogs bag historic sixth straight UAAP title

The NU Lady Bulldogs women’s basketball team completed another season sweep defeating UST in their best-of-three finals series, 66-54, last November 23, 2019 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. The Lady Bulldogs also extended their brilliant run into 96 games, making it the longest active winning streak in the history of the UAAP.

Veteran playmaker Monique del Carmen stepped up for the Lady Bulldogs chalking in 15 points, 4 assists, 2 boards and 2 steals while Kaye Pingol tallied 15 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals before she was subbed out of the game due to an apparent right shoulder injury. Del Carmen finished her UAAP career with the Finals MVP plum.

The team dubbed the championship win as “ANIMam” dedicating the crown to graduating team captain Jack Danielle Animam who was not able to suit up in the finals after sustaining an injury on her right eye while playing for the Philippines in New Zealand.

According to the team’s head coach Patrick Aquino, he is happy for the school and the team. “I didn’t imagine we will have six titles in six years with no losses.”, said Coach Pat.

The Lady Bulldogs are set to lose the services of Animam, Del Carmen, Pingol, Samantha Harada, Rhena Itesi and one-and-down player Kelli Hayes who all completed their UAAP playing years.
