NU Lady Bulldog score 4-peat, retain UAAP lawn tennis title
Four-peat!
The National University Lady Bulldogs scored four-peat and retained the title after beating the University of Santo Tomas in the UAAP Season 79 women’s lawn tennis finals last Sunday, March 19 at Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
Season MVP Clarice Patrimonio led the way for the Lady Bulldogs after taking a 6-1, 6-3 win over Erika Maduriao in their singles match.
Two-time UAAP MVP Christine Patrimonio also trounced UST’s Precian Rivera after tallying a 6-0, 6-3 win in their singles game while the Lady Bulldogs also scored a win in the doubles as the team of Jzash Canja and Apoul Polito routed Manduriao and Shymae Guitaran, 6-2 and 6-0 to give NU a 3-0 victory in the finals.
The younger Patrimonio meanwhile admitted that she will surely miss the company of her sister Tin who played her last game this season.
“Nakakalungkot, nasanay ako na kasama si Tin. But I guess next year, I’ll try my best.” Clarice said.
Five players from the Lady Bulldogs squad will be graduating this season and Coach Karl Santamaria said that they used this as an added motivation in the finals. “I told them to make it count, make it memorable,” said Coach Karl Santamaria.
This is the 24th straight win for the Lady Bulldogs in the women’s lawn tennis division, one of the current longest winning streaks in the UAAP.
