National U reigns supreme in UAAP high school volleyball tournament
The National U Bullpups and Lady Bullpups dominated the UAAP high school volleyball tournament to record the rare double gold in the boys’ and girls’ division.
NU Lady Bullpups completed the three-peat in the girl’s division after defeating the gritty University of Sto. Tomas Junior Tigresses in Finals Game 3, 25-22, 25-23, 15-25, 25-20, November 20, to close the 79th UAAP girls’ volleyball tournament at the Adamson Gym.
The Lady Bullpups showed their killer form in the fourth set clawing their way back to the game to take home another crown and solidify their dynasty in the girls’ volleyball tournament.
In an interview with NU girls head coach Raymond Castillo, couldn’t put into words how happy he was.
“This is the most amazing championship year namin. I think what it tells us is that we are really a team. Humugot kami ng lakas mula sa isa’t isa. When I started coaching here, sabi ko we will not build a star player, we will build a star team.” said Coach Castillo.
This season’s Best Setter winner Joyme Cagande, who dislocated her right shoulder in Game 2, played through pain in the last set to help deliver another title to NU.
Finals Most Valuable Player Princess Robles, season MVP Faith Nisperos and Mhicaela Belen also gave their best hits and shots to secure the title for the Jhocson-based squad.
Meanwhile, the Bullpups completed NU’s domination in the high school volleyball tournament after winning Finals Game 3 against UST Tiger Cubs in straight sets, 25-15, 25-18, 25-19.
Billie Jean Anima was named Finals Most Valuable Player after spearheading NU in clinching the championship crown.
This is the third straight year the Lady Bullpups dominated the girls’ division
while Bullpups recorded their second straight this season.
