National U captures first championship in men’s athletics
The National University Men’s Track and Field Team attained their first championship in the UAAP Men’s Athletics last November 26, at the PhilSports Track Oval in Pasig City.
The NU Bulldogs overcame the two-time defending champions UP Fighting Maroons after garnering 312.5 points from the five-day event, having a 10.5-point advantage against UP in the finals.
“Sabi ko sa mga bata, Let’s pray for the best and let’s do our best para makuha natin. This is our golden opportunity, ‘wag na nating sayangin;” said NU head coach Fernando Dagasdas.
The Taclobanon Van Alexander Obejas led in off tracking UP in the 4×400 meter relay. John Lloyd Cabalo overtook the opponent in the second leg of the relay, crossing the line with 3:17.90.
Obejas also bagged another gold medal in 110-meter hurdles and two silver medals in 4×100 meter relay and 400-meter hurdle tournaments.
Senior John Lloyd Cabalo also bagged additional gold medals for National U through his hard-earned 800-meter run and his contribution in 4×400-meter relay for both men’s and mixed categories.
Prior to the final day, Erwin Mancao clinched gold in 1500-meter run while Michael Karl Gomez had bronze in the same event.
