NU Manila Political Science Department Hosts ‘Tamang Pagboto, Tamang Demokrasya Seminar

The NU College of Education, Arts, and Sciences, together with its Political Science Department and Political Science Society, successfully hosted the Tamang Pagboto, Tamang Demokrasya Hyblend Seminar.

The seminar opened with an insightful keynote from Dr. Jan Robert Go, President of the Philippine Political Science Association (PPSA), titled “Raising Voter Awareness: The Role of Educators and Institutions in the Philippines.” Dr. Go tackled pressing issues in the country’s democratic landscape, such as misinformation, vote-buying, and political illiteracy, emphasizing how these factors erode democratic values and informed participation.

Following this, Dr. Jean Encinas-Franco, a faculty member of the UP Department of Political Science, delivered a compelling talk titled “Women in Politics.” She underscored the democratic necessity of women’s participation in formal political spaces, referencing key frameworks such as CEDAW, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the 1987 Philippine Constitution.

This event exemplified the NU Manila AB Political Science community’s commitment to fostering dialogue and critical thought around political reform and inclusion.
