National University Community Extension Office (NU-ComEx), in partnership with SM Cares, took part in the celebration of the 38th International Coastal Cleanup Day (ICC) last Saturday, September 16, at SM by the Bay, Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City.

ICC Day is an annual global celebration dedicated to eradicating the problem of increasing marine debris by cleaning and preserving coastlines, rivers, lakes, and waterways.

This year’s theme “Clean Seas for Healthy Fisheries,” closely aligns with the objective of the United Nations’ Ocean Decade Challenge 3, which is to “Sustainably Feed the Global Population.”

Nationalian volunteers headed by NU Manila’s AVP for Academic Services Dr. Arlene Trillanes participated in this activity to cater their environmental sustainability and conservation program—one of the four facets of NU ComEx.

The initiative served as the first official activity of their recently established Nationalian Environmental Actions for Tomorrow or NEAT: Coast Project.
