National University, Japanese delegates explore collaboration opportunities
Aiming to link Japan-based industries to National U Philippines, Japanese representatives from Chikyujin Holdings Co. and their partner agencies, participated in an exploratory discussion on student internship last July 17, 2023 at the NU Manila Function Room.
The event was graced by Banco De Oro representatives, NU College Deans, and Assistant Vice President for Academic Services, Dr. Arlene O. Trillanes.
AVP Arlene expressed optimism toward the possible internship opportunities and hoped that they could move forward and establish an affiliation that would be beneficial to Nationalians. “We definitely welcome opportunities to establish partnerships, especially in terms of internship for our students not only for engineering but for other programs as well.”
Deans and Internship Coordinators of the College of Engineering, Tourism and Hospitality Management, and Business and Accountancy presented their respective programs to enlighten the Japanese panel and open a discussion in aligning NU’s internship program with the requirements of Japanese companies.
Meanwhile, the BDO SVP and Head of Transaction Banking Group Remittance, Ms. Genie T. Gloria, suggested that they need to match the requirement of the Japanese employers with the existing capabilities and skills of the students to make the program run efficiently.
The Japanese delegates believe that National University’s system is already structured and look forward to matching their partner companies with NU’s internship program. “We hope to cooperate with your college and make this program run through as soon as we can,” the delegates expressed.
