National U formally launches NU Laguna & INSPIRE Sports Academy

National University formally launched its first branch outside Metro Manila with the blessing and inauguration of NU Laguna and INSPIRE Sports Academy last November 18, 2019. Present in the inauguration were Chairman of the Board Dr. Hans T. Sy, National U president Dr. Renato Carlos Ermita Jr., CHED IV-A Supervisor Mr. Carl Niño Ching, Vice-Chairman of the Board Teodoro Jhocson-Ocampo and Philippine Taekwondo Association CEO Grand Master Sung Chon Hong.

The event featured the ribbon-cutting ceremony, unveiling of the NU Laguna and INSPIRE Sports Academy marker, commemorative tree planting of sampaloc trees in the NU Laguna’s Sampaloc lane and a sneak peak of the Philippine national taekwondo team’s preparation for their upcoming ASEAN competitions.

In his speech, President RJ Ermita said that NU wants to bring the brand of education to the CALABARZON area.

“In 10 years’ time, we will truly make National U ‘nationwide’. As we celebrate our 120th year next year, our founder, Mariano Jhocson will be proud that his vision of a school to help uplift the Filipino has not only survived but more importantly…flourished and is making a positive impact on more people’s lives.”

NU Laguna which opened last September 2018 is in Brgy. Milagrosa in Calamba City, Laguna. It initially offered five degree programs; BS Accountancy, BS Computer Science, BS Psychology, BS Information Systems and BS Exercise and Sports Science.

INSPIRE (Integrated Sports Performance, Innovation and Recovery) Sports Academy, located inside the NU Laguna campus, is the only state-of-the-art sports facility located in the south. It is envisioned to contribute to the country’s sports development and sports-related education.
