NU Lipa and San Teodoro Explore Sustainable Tourism and Mangyan Outreach
NU Lipa Strengthens Ties with San Teodoro: Exploratory Talks on Sustainable Tourism and Community Outreach with the Mangyan Community.
Striving to create a greater impact on society, NU Lipa held an exploratory talk with the local government of San Teodoro for a partnership in sustainable tourism development. San Teodoro, a municipality of Oriental Mindoro, is endowed with natural attractions, including majestic waterfalls, pristine beaches, thick mangrove forests, rich culture, and lovely people. The NU Lipa team conducted a serendipity walk of the tourist attractions to assess and learn more about the sector. With its Tourism faculty, NU Lipa hopes to share its expertise in defining and promoting San Teodoro’s tourism niche. Making the trip even more meaningful was the outreach activity with the Mangyan community in Sitio Saclag, where school kits were distributed to the students of Ecological Public Secondary School. NU Lipa hopes to conduct more sustainable projects to improve tourism and the livelihood of the Mangyan community in San Teodoro.
The NU Lipa team was composed of Mr. Bernie Fabito, Dr. Jay Ar Dimaculangan, Dr. Gene Roy Hernandez, Dr. Rowena Alcoba, and Ms. Carol Alfaro. They were warmly received by Hon. Mayor Salvador Py, Tourism Officer Joel Plaza, Mr. Bernie Bae, and other government officials and stakeholders. The delegation was hosted with free accommodation at Lushgreen Resort, thanks to the generosity of the owners, Engr. Glenn and Mrs. Peejay Clemino. More than a hundred students of NU Lipa hail from Oriental Mindoro.
